I’m all about preserving our beautiful planet, but I wouldn’t consider myself “green” in the beauty department. I’ve tried many times to hop on the eco beauty bandwagon, but I haven’t found a variety of such products that really work for me. Last week, however, I was sent an EcoTools by Alicia Silverstone package with various makeup brushes and cosmetic cases that may just become part of my grooming routine.

I was shocked by how professional and soft the “cruelty-free” brushes are, especially given their low price point. Each one—including a powder, blush, foundation, eyeliner, eye shadow, lash/brow groomer, and retractable kabuki brush—is made completely with natural and recycled bamboo, aluminum, and synthetic takion bristles. With how sensitive my skin gets in winter’s harsh wind and the indoor’s drying heat, I need makeup brushes that won’t add to my skin qualms. I tried these tools out, and, surprisingly, my makeup glided on flawlessly and the bristles couldn’t be more comfortable. My favorite is the “6-piece Brush Set,” which includes a blush brush, eyeliner brush, lash/brow groomer, and concealer brush housed in a natural cotton and hemp case.

As for the eco cosmetic cases: Aside from the adorable display of flora and fauna on the bags’ exterior, they come with some serious packing power. Since these bags arrived just in time for my holiday travels, I used the opportunity to see what the “Train Case” and “Overnight Bag” could do. I actually found myself packing more toiletries (imagine that!) than I normally do just because each one gave me the extra space to do so. Adding to the travel convenience, inside each bag there are detachable mini-cases. Between my collection of Lancôme gift-with-purchases and luggage sets, I’ve collected my fair share of petite travel cases. These allow me the most packing freedom.

It looks like eco beauty products do have a place on my vanity after all.

Prices range from $4-$20.
