Trend Alert: Brogues (Oxford Shoes)

March 18, 2010 Post Pic

Given the popularity of towering heels with exotic skins and embellishments, it’s refreshing to see a classic, simplistic style back in the spotlight! If you haven’t noticed, menswear has been a popular inspiration among designers, and consequently, oxfords are making a huge comeback. They may look like a pair of your grandpa’s favorite shoes, but they still have a refined, vintage-y feel that’s totally classy when worn the right way. Built for casual wear with jeans or chinos, for example, these shoes can be easily dressed up as well. For spring, pair your oxfords with a variety of other popular items, such as a floral dress with stockings or boyfriend jeans and a blazer. My personal favorite: a pair of brown or gold oxfords added to boyfriend jeans; a long, white tank top under a gray crop top; a black boyfriend blazer; and an oversized black handbag. Though you may think oxfords aren’t the easiest shoes to pull off, their versatility and expression make them a no-brainer for spring. Here’s a look at some of my favorites styles.

1. “Lame Kid Smoke Flats” by Marc by Marc Jacobs ($300; shopbop.com)
2. “Rizing” oxford in silver by Boutque 9 ($130; zappos.com)
3. Sam Edelman “Cory” flat oxfords in “Gold Snake” ($129; Bloomingdale’s)
4. Deena & Ozzy “Wingtip Oxford” ($58; Urban Outfitters)
5. Moschino Cheap & ChicHenry” in beige suede ($300; piperline.com)
6. “Jezebell” flats by Steve Madden ($100; Steve Madden)
