Chicago Fashion Reality Show
Monday, February 21st, 2011
What aspiring fashion designer doesn’t love a little extra cash? Well, here’s a chance to get some: Kenmore Live Studio (678 N. Wells Street), an interactive event venue, is looking to cast the first season of its local reality show. “So You Wanna Be a Designer” will expose six contestants to top designers, stylists and photographers, teaching each one the ins and outs of the fashion business while they compete for a grand prize of $20,000 and a Kenmore Elite laundry pair. The venture will be hosted by Debbie Jagel, the designer behind the locally produced ootra, and broadcasted via Facebook.
To apply, visit facebook.com/kenmore and click “Be a Designer” on the left hand side of the page. The casting call goes until March 4. Invitations for contestants, which will take place in Chicago, will be issued in March.

Eclectica Closes Its Doors
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Sadly, Lincoln Park’s Eclectica boutique (1006 W Armitage Avenue) is closing its doors. Owner Vika Brown made the announcement just before the New Year and is holding quite the final sale for those looking to get heavy discounts on fantastic fashion. The store’s collection of contemporary clothing—including Vika’s own line—is currently 30% off warehouse prices. In addition, jewelry and handbags by the likes of local designers Tzen and Michelle Tan are 20%-50% off.
Though this location closes at the end of February, the store will open a studio in the Loop area to continue producing custom orders. Open by appointment only, the space will be available seven days a week, where clients can work exclusively with the designer.

Chicago Designers for Bright Pink
Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Chicago Designers for Bright Pink hosts an exclusive evening at The Affinia Hotel (166 E Superior Street, 2nd Floor Superior Room) that will feature fashion by popular local designers including Anna Hovet, C/FAN, jules, Kate Boggiano, Love Lulu Mae, Marisa Swystun, Zamrie and Paoo Jewelry. In addition to shopping for fall fashions—of which the designers will contribute 50% of proceeds to Bright Pink—guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary cocktail. Goodie bags will also be given to the first 50 guests.

Trending: Medallian Necklaces
Wednesday, September 29th, 2010
I may not be drawn to jewelry like most women, but I still feel the need to invest in at least one accessory that carries me through the season. With fall comes the desire to tweak one’s wardrobe, and since I have worn my chunky statement rings to the bone, I’m taking a new appraoch to accessorizing. Enter: the long-chain, medallion necklace.
This belly-grazing accessory claims the spotlight for fall. The abundance of styles can cause one’s indecisiveness to surface, but whether you choose a vintage medallion, whimsical charm or a bold pendant, you can literally do no wrong in the selection and styling. Use it to dress up a t-shirt and jeans, update a little black dress or add some glam to a chunky fall knit.
Go for a sophisticated, 70′s look by combining a vintage-inspired necklace with wide-leg jeans and a silk blouse; or try piling on multiple chains for a gypsy feel. If you’re an 80’s gal, mimic Madonna with the comeback of Rosary-inspired cross. Get adventurous and even try wearing the strand backwards with a backless top or dress.
Accessories complete a look—they’re the icing on the cake, and these long-chain, medallion necklaces make it easy to add interest to both statement-making and simplistic ensembles. This versatile piece has maintained its staying power by resurfacing for decades. Though these trinkets are housed in nearly every closet, there’s always room for expansion. Here’s some of our favorite medallion necklaces for Fall 2010.

Garden Party Style
Monday, June 7th, 2010
All white ensembles are the epitome of summer chic. It’s with this notion in mind that we explore the sophistication and femininity of garden party style. The onslaught of floral prints makes such pretty patterns a predicable choice for these summertime affairs. Instead, we’re creating a stark canvas that pops against a background of vibrant perennials and luscious greenery. This look’s classic glamour has the power to inspire gasps from fellow party-goers, making you as eye-catching as the blossoms themselves. But, make not mistake. It’s surprisingly on-trend even in its timelessness. The head-to-toe whiteout nods to spring’s runways (i.e. Gucci and Bottega Veneta) and incorporates one of the season’s biggest accessory trends: Lucite. Take a look and start building your all white garden party ensemble that keeps things romantic, ladylike and modern.
