Staying Warm: Capes
Friday, January 8th, 2010
Batman and Superman aren’t exactly fashion icons, but we can draw a little inspiration from a signature element of their style: the cape. It’s making a name for itself this season and giving us an alternative to our down parkas and wool peacoats. Though we won’t be using this piece to cascade down from buildings or shield ourselves from a fireball, we’ll employ the cape’s ability to combat the cold while looking darn good. Here are a few that are just as versatile and cozy as they are stylish.
ONE. A.P.C.’s plaid belted cape ($226; lagarçonne.com) has a cool preppiness that makes it a piece you’ll want to wear indoors as well.
TWO. DKNY’s black wool double-breasted cape ($595; net-a-porter.com) is a classic investment piece you’ll have forever.
THREE. Derek Lam’s cashmere-felt cape ($995; shopbop.com) combines pale pink and clean lines that create a subtle elegance.
FOUR.The earth tones on the Kimchi blue cape ($60; Urban Outfitters) give it a rustic edge, while the faux fur and brass buttons add a touch of glam.
How’s that for super powers?
